De Cordoue à Samarcande an exhibition in the Louvre opens this weekend




A collection of objects from Museum of Islamic Art, Doha, which will be opening in the near future, will be exhibited at the Louvre between March 30th and June 26th. This will be curated by Sabiha Khemir (of Doha's Museum of Islamic Art) and Francis Richard. A catlogue of the exhibition was made by Khemir. From Córdoba to Samarkand The Future Museum of Islamic Art, Doha
As a preview to the opening of the Museum of Islamic Art, Doha (Qatar), the Louvre hosts an exhibition of around 50 key works selected from the magnificent collection assembled by the State of Qatar.
The extraordinary works selected by the curators of the Louvre exhibition are among the most representative pieces in this collection. They bear witness to a rich and varied cultural history, spanning three continents and thirteen centuries, from the 7th to the end of the 19th century.The museum destined to house this entire collection, the realization of a resolutely innovative architectural and museological project, as revealed by two models presented in the Espace Richelieu, was designed by Ieoh Ming Pei and Jean-Michel Wilmotte and is currently nearing completion.This exhibition is sponsored by the government of Qatar.

Hey Tarek, do you know where I can get a copy of this book: From Córdoba to Samarkand: Masterpieces from the New Museum of Islamic Art in Doha by Sabiha al-Khemir. I believe it was produced by the Qatar Supreme Council for Arts, Culture and Heritage.
